The Editor’s Room is a three-session masterclass on the publication journey. It brings together senior editors and experienced scholars to discuss responsible AI use, publishable research problems, theory development, journal fit, editorial screening, rejection, revision, and acceptance.
Session: AI and Academic Publishing: Responsible Use, Novel Research Opportunities, and the Human Edge
Dr. Varsha Jain is Professor of Marketing at ESSCA School of Management, Paris, Co-Editor of the Journal of Consumer Behaviour, and an Associate Editor of Psychology & Marketing. She is an award-winning academic with 185+ publications. Her research focuses on consumer behaviour, digital marketing, and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, augmented and virtual reality, and the Metaverse.
The session will explore responsible use of AI in academic research and publishing, disclosure and research integrity, emerging research opportunities in marketing and consumer behaviour, human–AI collaboration, AI and decision-making, and the importance of preserving human judgement and scholarly contribution.
Session: From Research Topic to Publishable Problem: Problematization, Research Gaps, and Stronger Contributions
Professor Dr Lim Weng Marc is Dean and Distinguished Professor at Sunway Business School, Sunway University, Malaysia. He is Editor-in-Chief of Global Business & Organizational Excellence, Deputy Editor of the Journal of Global Marketing, and serves in editorial roles with the Journal of Business Research, the Journal of Consumer Behaviour, the Journal of Strategic Marketing, and The Service Industries Journal.
The session will help participants distinguish between a broad topic, a research gap, a research problem, and a research question. It will examine gap spotting versus problematization, theory development, theory–context fit, and the development of novel and meaningful contributions across qualitative and quantitative research.
Session: Inside the Editorial Decision: Acceptance, Rejection, and Revision
Dr. Sudhir Rana is Associate Professor of Marketing at Liwa University, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. He is Editor-in-Chief of FIIB Business Review and Editor-in-Chief of the Review of Management Literature.
This session will provide an inside view of what happens when a manuscript reaches the editorial office. It will cover journal fit, manuscript screening, originality, contribution, clarity, methods, ethical compliance, desk rejection, rejection after peer review, revision decisions, interpretation of reviewer recommendations, response-to-reviewers letters, appeals, and common editorial mistakes.
The module will combine expert-led masterclasses, editorial examples, moderated conversations, live audience interaction, and practical guidance that participants can apply before submitting or revising a manuscript.
