Course Overview
A foundational program centered on qualitative research methods and hands-on training in leading CAQDAS tools (NVivo, MAXQDA, ATLAS.ti). Focuses on coding strategies, thematic analysis, visualization, mixed method study, ethics, and applying findings to theses or journal articles.
Learning Outcomes
- Differentiate qualitative research paradigms (e.g., Grounded theory, Thematic analysis, Phenomenology, Ethnography)
- Design qualitative studies with clarity on ontology, epistemology, sampling, and ethics
- Collect and manage qualitative data effectively (interviews, focus groups, field notes, documents)
- Master coding techniques—open, axial, selective—and develop robust codebooks
- Use NVivo, MAXQDA, and ATLAS.ti to organize, code, and categorize data effectively
- Apply each CAQDAS tool’s advanced features: network views, memoing, mixed-methods integration, visuals like word clouds and charts
- Visualize relationships, themes, and code networks using tool-specific functions and queries
- Ensure data integrity, confidentiality, and ethical compliance in qualitative analysis
- Translate qualitative findings into coherent thesis chapters or journal-ready narrative segments
- Choose CAQDAS tools based on research needs, usability, pricing, and team workflows—with awareness of user feedback and preferences
- Leverage AI-assisted features—such as auto-coding, thematic suggestions, text summarization, and collaboration—for efficient and transparent analysis
